The application to the Lee College Honors Program is evaluated holistically, taking into account a student's past academic performance, faculty recommendations, long-term educational goals, and intellectual curiosity. All students who are interested are encouraged to apply.
That said, we have noticed that students who have been admitted to and successfully completed the program have generally had:
- A 3.5+ GPA on 9 or more college credits, and/or
- A 3.75+ high school GPA
Students are also generally expected to be college-ready in reading, writing, and math. However, current or prior enrollment in developmental coursework does not automatically exclude a student from the program.
If a student has a limited academic history, they may be asked to meet with the Honors Program Coordinator in order to further assess readiness and may be advised to reapply after establishing a stronger academic record.
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Students must be admitted to the program before enrolling in Honors coursework or beginning an Honors contract. Students should be cognizant of registration deadlines and are encouraged to apply at least one month prior to the start of the enrollment period for the semester in which they hope to enroll in Honors coursework or contracts. This allows time for the program to review and respond to the application prior to registration. You can view enrollment periods and other registration information at www.lee.edu/registration/.
Finally, all applying students are encouraged to review this website and the Honors Program Handbook for additional details about the program, including information about maintaining program and scholarship eligibility.
