Lee College proudly hosted a special Recognition Ceremony on Monday, June 30, 2025, honoring Susan Moore-Fontenot for her remarkable 37 years of service on the Lee College Board of Regents. The event, held at the Rundell Hall Conference Center, brought together friends, colleagues, and community members to celebrate Moore-Fontenot’s enduring legacy.
A regent from 1988 to 2025, she was recognized for her unwavering dedication to the college, its mission, and its students. Several community leaders reflected on Moore-Fontenot’s decades of stewardship and service.
Dr. Lynda Villanueva, president of Lee College, praised Susan’s dedication and impact on the institution and community.
“What strikes me most about Susan is her unwavering advocacy for those who need a voice—students seeking opportunity, communities seeking growth, and institutions striving to fulfill their mission of transformation,” Dr. Villanueva said. “During her tenure, Susan guided Lee College through remarkable growth, ensuring that progress never came at the expense of our core values or commitment to student success.”
She added, “Her dedication extends beyond the college, reflected in her community service through church, civic organizations, and volunteer work. Susan has consistently used her talents to uplift and strengthen our community.”
Dr. Villanueva concluded, “Susan, your legacy lives on in every student who found their path at Lee College, every program you supported, and every barrier you helped remove. You exemplify what it means to serve with purpose, lead with integrity, and always keep students’ dreams at the heart of our work.”
In a special moment during the ceremony, Baytown Mayor Charles Johnson issued an official proclamation honoring Susan Moore-Fontenot for her outstanding contributions to the community and to education. The proclamation celebrated her steadfast service and the lasting impact of her work.
In a heartfelt address to the crowd, Moore-Fontenot reflected on the college’s impact and the collaborative efforts of the board.
“Lee College has been more than a place of learning. It’s been a living, breathing force for opportunity — transforming lives, lifting families, and rewriting futures because of the work done here,” Moore-Fontenot said. “To my fellow Regents, past and present, thank you for your commitment, your collaboration, and your courage. Governing isn’t always easy, and progress isn’t always quick, but together we have kept students at the center of our decisions and remained faithful stewards of the college’s mission to our staff and faculty.”
Moore-Fontenot was named an official Board Member Emeritus for her commitment to Lee College, and for being the longest serving board member in the college’s history. She was also awarded a lifetime membership to The Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT), recognizing her national influence and long-standing commitment to community college governance.
