Hurricane Evacuation

Police vehicles behind a Hurricane Evacuation Route signIf a mandatory evacuation is issued:

  • EVACUATE EARLY!
    • The greater Houston area has a population of about 6.5 million people. A large percentage of this population waits until the last minute to evacuate. This causes extreme congestion at airports and on the highways. If authorities order an evacuation, you should leave immediately. The earlier you leave, the easier your evacuation will be. Your chances of securing flights will also be higher. If you wait until just before landfall, you will begin to encounter long lines at gas stations, outgoing flight delays, full flights, and slow-moving traffic.
  • Consult the Lee College website daily during severe weather for official information regarding Lee College's plan for closure. Listen to local news media for other information.
  • If it is safe, stay where you are until Lee College announces that you may return to campus. Check the Lee College Alerts and Emergency sections.
  • Be prepared in case telephones and cell phones in the Houston/Baytown area become inoperative.
  • Bring cash with you in case you cannot access an ATM.
  • If you have pets, make sure to include them in your evacuation plan.
